CityU researchers received 36 awards at the 48th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva held from 26 to 30 April. This is the third year running that CityU has received the highest number of awards among local institutions. The Teaching Excellence Awards for 2022/23 have been presented to seven faculty members at CityU in recognition of innovative approaches to educating their students. The winners are Professor Kenneth Lo of the Department of Chemistry, Dr Tsui Lik-hang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chinese and History, and the Veterinary Clinical Skills Team led by Dr Rebecca Parkes, Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. BBA Marketing alumnus Mr Ray Lau (劉國瑞) has won the Best New Director Award and the Best Original Screenplay Award at the 59th Golden Horse Awards for his first feature film, The Sunny Side of the Street 《白日青春》. Ray was born in Malaysia; he came to Hong Kong to study at CityU with a full scholarship for overseas students in 2008. BSc Applied Chemistry graduate Mr Billy Lam (林志揚) co-founded Farm66 Investment Limited with his friend in 2013, commencing a bold journey into vertical hydroponic farming. Farm66 has won numerous awards and funds, including the Grand Award in the Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund’s Jumpstarter 2017 competition and CityU HK Tech 300 angel fund, which were worth US$1 million and HK$1 million respectively, providing encouragement for Billy to plough ahead with his “farm”. A research team led by Professor Chen Fu-rong, Chair Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, is pioneering advanced technology for the next-generation self-design and manufacture of electron microscopes (EMs). CityU is the first university in the world to achieve this. The team’s ultimate goal is to develop a miniature high space-time resolved “quantum” EM that can be used to study atom dynamics of beam-sensitive materials. Read More>>
