Over 550 distinguished guests attended the dinner of the CityU Foundation, at which a new record HK$16.8 million was raised to support the University’s strategic research development. With the recent attainment of direct accreditation from both the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council, all 11 CityU Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine graduates of the leading cohort completed registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong and obtained their license to practise as veterinary surgeons. BA Culture and Heritage Management graduate Ms Leung Fei-tung (梁非同) is a promising Cantonese opera performer in Hong Kong. Through her studies at CityU, Fei-tung has acquired vast knowledge in Eastern and Western cultures as well as expertise in curating, which has invigorated her performance with a fresh perspective. The inaugural lecture of the “Way Kuo Distinguished Lecture Series”, titled An Overview of High Performance Computing and Future Requirements, is scheduled for 5 December, at 4:30pm. Professor Jack Dongarra, a supercomputer guru and Turing Award recipient will examine how high performance computing has changed over the last ten years and look toward the future in terms of trends. The Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM) presented the IHEEM Lifetime Achievement Award to Engineering Doctorate alumnus, Ir Professor Yuen Pak-leung (right). This award honours Ir Professor Yuen’s unwavering commitment to his profession, outstanding achievements, and contributions to advancing healthcare engineering.

Kudos to two College of Engineering alumni Mr Steve Kong (centre) and Ms Florence Chan (left) and their company, AI Guided Limited, on winning the Smart People (Smart Inclusion) Gold Award at HKICT Awards 2023 for their revolutionary AI smart belt, equipped with a cutting-edge AI chip, which serves as a vital and transformative tool in assisting the visually impaired.

Congratulations to College of Engineering alumnus Mr Spencer Fung (1st left, front row) and his company, Optix Solutions Limited, on winning the Smart Business Grand Award and the Smart Business (Emerging Technologies) Gold Award at the HKICT Awards 2023 for their collaboration with MTR in revolutionising quality control and assurance in the construction industry using AI.
