CityUHK continued to demonstrate its commitment to the local community by participating in the Lam Tsuen Well-Wishing Night Market. From 7 to 13 February, CityUHK staff and students have actively participated in the event, which took place in the same locality as CityUHK Farm. They have shared the locally produced dairy products of CityUHK Farm, demonstrating the University’s commitment to sustainable practices. The initiative not only underscores CityUHK’s dedication to community engagement, but also highlights the significant role of CityUHK Farm in the Lam Tsuen community.

CityUHK’s participation in the Lam Tsuen Well-Wishing Night Market is part of a strategic initiative to foster deeper connections with the local community. By attending community activities, CityUHK aims to promote greater understanding and integration between the University and the community.

CityUHK’s booth at the night market offered a limited number of free milk cartons and introduced the original flavour of its newly launched ice cream. Additional flavours were launched after the Lunar New Year on the CityUHK campus. The milk and ice cream are tasty by-products of CityUHK Farm, an integral part of the University’s Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme, Hong Kong’s first and only veterinary programme.

CityUHK is the first university in Hong Kong to introduce and practice the pioneering concept of One Health. The University will continue to engage with local communities through various activities and lead the way in veterinary education and life sciences research in Hong Kong, Asia, and the world. CityUHK’s focus on public health, food safety, animal welfare, and aquatic animal health contributes to the well-being of society.

Like CityUHK Milk launched last year, CityUHK Ice Cream is a by-product of the University Farm, which since November 2022 has been primarily a training centre for students in CityUHK’s Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) programme. The BVM students gain essential learning opportunities and hands-on experiences at the Farm in animal handling, veterinary examination, animal welfare and husbandry, farm management, and food production and safety under the pioneering concept of One Health.

In September 2023, the six-year BVM programme received dual accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in the UK and the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council, becoming the only BVM programme in Asia accredited by two of the world’s major regulatory bodies for veterinary education.

The Convocation counts on fellow alumni’s continuous support to build an even stronger network. Please watch out for more Convocation events via its website and Facebook!
