Twenty alumni devoted their Saturday to hold a Professional Sharing and Mock Interview Training session for a similar number of social work students in early May. The session started with an informal lunch where the alumni shared their experiences with groups of students with similar interests. In the afternoon, they held group and individual mock interviews. For the group interview, students were asked to discuss issues prepared by the alumni. Then two alumni interviewed individual students for 15 minutes, and commented on their application letters and CVs for jobs. The students found the exercises extremely useful in helping them understand what is required to prepare for jobs.

The Alumni Relations Office has recruited over a hundred final-year students as Class Liaison Ambassadors (CLA) under the “CityU Alumni Ambassador Scheme”. At an orientation programme held on 18 May 2010, the Ambassadors committed to maintain up-to-date personal records of their classmates and to keep them posted of University and alumni news after graduation. Three CLAs recruited in 2009 shared with them their tips of updating class records and their past rewarding experiences of serving the University. Share their happy moments.

The University’s non-local alumni networks are growing stronger! The Alumni Relations Office (ARO) is thankful for the support of our non-local alumni, particularly our devoted alumni ambassadors. In a recent meeting in Shanghai, Kathy Chan, Associate Vice-President (Alumni Relations) met alumni ambassadors stationed in the city to brainstorm ways to further strengthen the expanding alumni network in Shanghai. ARO is planning its third alumni reunion in Shanghai and would like to get in touch with more alumni residing or working there. If you or any alumni friends living or residing in Shanghai have any personal updates including contact details, please go here. If you or any other alumni there have changed contact details, please (with their consent) let us know by email.

Over 50 Mainland graduates-to-be joined a gathering organised by the Alumni Relations Office on 17 May when Associate Vice-President (Alumni Relations) Kathy Chan welcomed them to a big alumni family that now numbers more than 105,000, including a rapidly growing Mainland network. They got updates on the latest tailor-made alumni services and useful tips on future careers from two senior alumni leaders. The leaders included GENG Chunya (MPhil Physics & Materials Science), CEO of Time Rider Technology and social networking company EastSpider, and Oliver LU (Master of Business Administration), Executive Officer (China Team) of School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) of CityU.
