Students and advertising professionals are being invited to participate in the “Fly High Awards 2011-2012” organised by the JCDecaux Transport. Being held for the third time, the event is being expanded to include the first-ever “Fly High Advertising Contest 2013” that challenges participants to interpret the contest theme “Gateway to the World”. Alumni and students got useful tips on the marketing of internet development in mobile communication at the interactive “MBA Professional Forum” organised by the College of Business on 31 May 2013. The guest speaker was Director & CEO of Rock Mobile Mr Jack Li, who spoke on the topic “移動互聯網時代的跨界經營”. Also joining the event was alumni leader Ms Qin Yi who is the Senior Vice-President of Rock Mobile and enjoys interacting and sharing career tips with students. Dr Kevin Chiang, Director of the Master of Business Administration programme, thanked them for their support and noted that similar meetings with senior alumni would help students to broaden their horizons.

Some 90 alumni and students of the School of Law gathered on campus on 28 May 2013 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme. It was a great occasion to reminisce about the old days and reconnect with fellow alumni. The alumni also showed their appreciation of the nurture of the University and School to the Dean Professor Wang Gui Guo and other academics attending the event. Chairman of the School of Law Alumni Association Ms Bonita Chan appealed to all attendees to stay connected with CityU and participate in various alumni activities of the University.

Alumni, you can now participate in CityU projects that aim to benefit society. Your investment will help the development of CityU students, your alma mater, and Hong Kong society and beyond.

Under the theme “CityU Wants a Better World”, a new website was launched recently. At the “Invest in CityU Students and Projects” (iCUSP) (www.cityu.edu.hk/betterworld) site, you can access details of a dozen high-value interdisciplinary teaching, learning and research projects. You can invest in any of the projects and the students who are conducting them by donating online.

“We want more people to know about the highly creative work that our students and staff are pursuing through our Discovery-enriched Curriculum® (DEC),” explained Professor Arthur Ellis, Provost. “We also want to especially encourage our alumni to become investors in and ‘fellow travellers’ on these projects by supporting them financially and helping bring the projects to fruition.”

The Alumni Relations Office held two briefing sessions on 3 May and 6 June 2013 to cater for around 60 graduating students who committed to be Class Liaison Ambassadors under the CityU Alumni Ambassador Scheme. They will help strengthen liaison between their classmates and the University, and keep them updated on alumni news. Click HERE for the pictures of the event.

Some 20 participants joined the “Xi’an Cultural Exchange Tour” organised by the CityU Eminence Society from 19-22 May 2013. Tour members were received by leaders of the United Front Work Department of Shaanxi Province(陝西省委統戰部), Xi’an Jiaotong University(西安交通大學), and Airport New City in Xi’an (西咸空港新城). In addition to official visits, the group joined the CityU Alumni Reunion @ Xi’an organised by Alumni Relations Office where alumni strengthened connections and their affiliation to the University. Tour members also visited a number of prominent tourist spots including Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum (兵馬俑). To share happy memories, please click here.

To mark the 5th anniversary of the “Project for Learning Excellence” (Project X), the Department of Applied Social Studies held an “X-Gala” for participants at CityU’s Wei Hing Theatre on 20 May 2013. The occasion was an opportunity for student leaders and alumni mentors to share their campus experiences and whole person development through “Project X” learning activities that included Programme-based Training Camps, Learning Communities, and Community Awareness Projects. Around 20 Alumni Ambassadors attended this event. Graduates Mr James Wong Ting-pong and Ms Kelly Chan Wai-lam shared their rewarding experiences and what they had learnt from the project. Two CityU Alumni Reunions were held in Toronto and Vancouver on 8 and 9 June 2013 respectively with more than 40 participants. Alumni Relations Manager Mr Xavier Wong attended the events on behalf of the Alumni Relations Office and briefed them on the University’s latest development and achievement, including the recent 5th place ranking in the world’s top 50 universities under 50 years old. Participants took the opportunity to strengthen connection with each other and share memories of CityU. The alumni also expressed their heartfelt congratulations to the University for its 30th Anniversary next year. Convocation Vice-Chairman Mr Clovis Lau and Standing Committee member Mr Cedric Cheng warmly hailed recipients of the Andrew Fan Student Award Scheme at its 5th Anniversary reception.

The gathering, held on campus on 30 May, was organised by the University’s Development Office in recognition of the generous donation of alumnus Mr Andrew Fan for setting up a number of different scholarship awards since the academic year of 2007/2008.

In addition to his capacity as Convocation Standing Committee member, Cedric joined this celebratory occasion also in his dual role as one of the former recipients of the Scheme’s Top Outstanding CityU Student Leader Awards in 2008/2009. Cedric was delighted to have the opportunity to chat with former fellows as well as this year’s student awardees.

Convocation was glad to help strengthen CityU’s non-local alumni network by supporting two recent alumni reunion activities in Canada. On 8 and 9 June respectively, alumni residing in Toronto and Vancouver joined the gatherings organised by the Alumni Relations Office and with the Convocation as event partner. They were delighted to have the opportunity to get together and learn the latest updates about their alma mater.
